Top 10 Survival Necessities

Hey guys, here’s a little video I prepared after having a discussion with some friends about what we’d do if some sort of disaster were to occur like in the recent rash of movies such as 2012, The Book of Eli, or any of the other Disaster films. Check out the video AND head on over to JoinTheColony.com to participate in the fun!

It pays to be prepared so here are my top 10 Survival Necessities:

10.) A Leatherman Multitool

These awesome all-in-one tools put the swiss army knife to shame! They have pliers, screwdrivers, saws, tweezers, and just about anything else you might need in a disaster.

9.) Potassium Iodide Tablets

If there’s a nuclear incident exposure to radioactive iodide is what’s going to get you! However, taking potassium iodide saturates your thyroid gland with safe iodide to block the radioactive stuff.

8.) Magnesium Fire Starter

Lighters run out of gas too quick so get yourself a Magnesium fire starter instead!

7.) Flexible Splint & Bandage

Flexible splints to help set and protect an injured limb. Just bend and shape it to fit the part that’s broken and wrap it to keep it immobilized.

6.) Hand Crank Radio

An emergency radio will pick up just about any frequency and operates on batteries, solar power, or even hand cranking.

5.) Shotgun

You know you want one! :-)

4.) Water Purifier & Collapsible Water Carrier

In an emergency you are going to need water! So get one of these pumps to filter whatever water you find nearby to make it safe to drink. Just drop the filter into a nearby stream and pump to fill a container.

3.) Emergency Food Supplies

Tornados, Earthquakes, riots… whatever your fear, keep a 2 week supply of emergency food on hand just in case… Because when disaster strikes you will NOT be able to go to the grocery store!

2.) Camp Stove

But when you get really hungry and come across some quality food you’re going to want to cook it. A camp stove beats a fire any day of the week!

1.) SureFire LED Flashlight

Ok, I may have overdone it with the flashlight just a tad in my video, but you really should get a high quality LED flashlight like the SureFires. And make sure you get extra batteries as the more exotic ones will almost certainly be impossible to find after a disaster.
