UPDATED 11/11
Final details on the New York meetup are below. I believe John Biggs from CrunchGear and his NY readers are going to join us on Friday, November 20th. CrunchGear is a gadget blog with a sense of humor, and if you don’t read it, start now! :) This will be a fun way for me to get to know you guys and at the same time, mix up our tech circles a bit.

I know I said in the comments below I don’t prefer bars in case we have underage viewers wanting to hang out, but if you are underage and plan on attending, please leave a comment or tweet me so I can work out something. Maybe we can meet somewhere in Union Square prior to going to the bar. You just have to tell me so I can make it happen! Here are the details:

Date: Friday, November 20th
Time: 7:00 PM
Location: Heartland Brewery, Upstairs (35 Union Sq W)

RSVP below. Looking forward to hanging out with everyone!

Dave and Busters : Times Square
The Apple Store : 5th Ave

  2. Craig W. Says:

    McSorely’s.

  3. steveo Says:

ya dave and busters sounds good

  4. steveo Says:

    friday please

  5. Kenny Says:

I would recommend the heartland brewery — either in the Union Square area or Midtown/West.

  6. Daemon Says:

Come on guys pick some place that is says this is NY. An example, I live close to KC which is known for BBQ. I woould pick someplace like Arthur Bryant’s or Oklahoma Joes.

  7. Andrew Conklin Says:

Brass Monkey on Little West 12th in the meatpacking district.. Great Bar in a cool part of town that most people don’t get to see. Great other restaurants / clubs in the area.

  8. Gadget Wisdom Says:

Close to Midtown is the best location because it is the center of the city and there is a lot to do there. Although there is plenty to do in the rest of the city as well.

The question is what sort of venues our ‘host’ prefers, isn’t it?

  9. Cali Lewis Says:

I’m really open to the type of venue. Lessons I’ve learned from previous meetups…

Places that are loud or too crowded don’t ever work out well. Bars can be good, but we might have underage viewers who want to go, so I tend to not choose bars. We met at the Apple Store last year, and that was fun. I’d be up for just walking around Central Park. Something that doesn’t necessarily require anything from anyone so we’re all free to just chat and hang out. Also, something where we can be easily found if people show up late.

  10. David Says:

    Friday works best for me.

  11. Ralph Says:

The proximity to central park was the reasoing for the Apple store suggestion.

Good point about the underage fans.

I would prefer a friday, but its up to our ‘host’.

Thursdays are also the out and about night for the people who work in the city, so more crowds in places.

  12. Geek Sputnik Says:

Friday would be a good way to start the weekend. :)

  13. Mike M Says:

    Carnegie Deli
    854 7th Ave, at 55th St
    New York, NY

Legendary sandwiches are served at this landmark New York deli.

  14. Tal Says:

Fridays are def better for me too.. anywhere in midtown should work, but Cali, i think we need to decide first what type of meeting it will be and set the location accordingly. i mean, meeting in a bar or restaurant is a little different then the apple store. what type of event did you have in mind ?

  15. kevin Says:

Central park is definetly cool, what time will this go down?

  16. Sam B Says:

Thursday would be best and no bar please.

  17. Jeff Says:

I wanted to throw out an idea that’s all ages and gets the creative juices flowing: museums. If you do Thurs evening, the (recently opened) Museum of Arts & Design is pay what you wish from 6-9p madmuseum.org; and if you do Fri, the Whitney Museum is pay what you wish 6-9p whitney.org

  18. TapChus Says:

I think Jeff’s idea of the museums is excellent! A meet up outside like Central Park is a bit too cold at this time of the year. After the initial meet up at the museum, the adults can continue at a nearby watering hole for libations.

  19. chip Says:

    3 options – all acceptable
    675 bar
    ESPN Zone
    Apotheke

  20. Justin P Says:

Friday would be better, I’d love to attend but I’m in Upstate NY

  21. Sujay Says:

Thu please. Anywhere in Down/mid-town is perfect.

  22. Ed Says:

Friday better for me too. Everyone’s thinking Manhattan. How about we “bridge” some New York Borough’s? I suggest maybe meeting at PowerHouse or another similar location in Dumbo (Brooklyn), walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, end in the South Street Seaport or somewhere down there in Manhattan. That’s if you want to walk about. If not, plenty of interesting places in those areas.

  23. Carlo Says:

Also near Central Park is the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle? Which has a couple small places to eat, a bookstore, the Samsung Experience showroom (love the crazy-thin OLED screens on display), and the Jazz Center and Hall of Fame. It’s also semi-close to the new upper westside Apple store.

  24. Juan Says:

How about the Museum of The City of NY? It is by the Central Park conservatory and the museum says “New York”

  25. penpusher Says:

Awesome! It sounds like fun. I plan to be there!

  26. Vinod Tonangi Says:

    I’ll be there!

  27. Fox4649 Says:

You should call it a Visitor Resistance Meeting. You are in New York, after all.

  28. medicwhite Says:

Oh crap, I’m in NYC on that Saturday. Trying to adjust plans by one day now.

  29. Michael Kaufman Says:

    Right on! I’ll be there.

  30. Matthew Snodgrass Says:

I’ll definitely try to make it! It’s only a couple of blocks from work.

  31. TapChus Says:

Have a great time everybody. I just found out that I have a Memorial Service to attend that evening.

  32. William Figueroa Says:

It’s my birthday 4 days later (21). Cali if I go would you be so kind and sign my Macbook?

  33. Cali Lewis Says:

If you’re sure you want me to, I’ll be happy to. Happy Birthday!

By the way, I hear they may allow under 21 in, but I’ll double check that.

Sorry about the memorial service, TapChus.

  34. Prescott Perez-Fox Says:

Heartland Brewery gets really crowded! They sometimes don’t like to seat a party unless everyone arrives, and they don’t look favourably on estimated numbers. Calling up and saying “I dunno, maybe 20″ will earn frowns all around. Unless, somehow, you have the entire upstairs reserved.

    Hopefully, I can make it.

  35. Eric ZORK Alan Says:

Cali, Sweetie & I most definitely hope to attend.

Can we bring our portable air mattress and rope you into a BedVlog?

  40. Chip Says:
