Dave Carroll iTunesAs I was browsing today, I noticed that Dave Carroll (star of the very popular United Breaks Guitars video) didn’t have a link to his iTunes album anywhere on his website. Given that the other banners on his homepage are linked, I thought either he didn’t realize it wasn’t linked, or didn’t know how to grab the album link from iTunes. This is something a LOT of people ask me how to do (because it isn’t terribly obvious), so I thought I’d post instructions here and use his album, Perfect Blue, as an example. I hope there isn’t a specific reason he didn’t want it linked! (Dave, if there is, just let me know!)

1) Go into the iTunes Store
2) Click Power Search on the right side of the page and Search
3) Choose the desired result from the choices it gives you
4) Right click on the album art (the large picture at the top left) and choose “Copy iTunes Store URL”

You’ll get a long link that looks like this: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=281003046&s=143441

Without that link, Dave and other artists are probably losing sales.

That’s it! This will work for anything in iTunes, from music to videos to podcasts to apps. Now go promote yourself! ;)

If you’re on a Mac its even easier. After you find the album you want, you can click and drag the title to the window where you want to display the link. http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=281003046&s=143441

Once you see the green plus sign you’re good to release and the linked text appears based on the program you’re using. (If the program can detect URLs)

You can also get a link to a specific episode or track by right-clicking on the track or podcast episode name itself in the listings on the bottom half of iTunes Store pages. This can be useful for sending links to friends of podcast episodes where something of interest was mentioned or linking directly to a new single or something.

    Just thought I’d add that.

Ok. Question is… Did you tell Dave how to do this? :-)

I tweeted him the link. Don’t have a clue if he saw it. :)
