Cali and Neal, I’m very sorry for the loss of your friend Dave. I never met him, but I have tasted his cooking. I live in the area near his restaurant (a few towns away) and can attest to the quality of the food and people there. I only wish I would have gone back there to meet him in person and tell him how great his food was.

Condolences to everyone who is hurting today. Here’s a poem I wrote a few weeks ago and one short one I wrote before I checked my flicker. I hope they help those in pain today following Dave’s passing. He really sounded like an awesome human being to have as a friend.

I wrote this while on patient protection duty, just after one of the patients passed away. I’ll always remember how upset his daughter was, and I wrote this mainly for her, but in such a way as everyone can draw meaning from it.

The Message.

Heaven, open up your Pearly Gates,
And let this soul inside,
An angel for you is on their way,
Another great has died.

They filled my life with meaning,
That never will be lost,
A light that lit up the darkest room,
To win your affection at any cost,

They could alway be counted on,
When trouble was coming near,
They always fought the good fight,
And did it without fear,

And as they waited closer to the end,
And further from the start,
They opened up and spoke to me,
Spoke right from the heart,

They told me not to fear death,
But to revere instead your life,
To live each day like it’s your last,
To struggle through all strife,

And never give in to the evil,
Of which the world is facing,
To fight back all your fears,
As your heart starts racing,

And know that when it is your time,
There’s no reason to be scared,
It’s more important for all to know,
That while you were here, you cared.
